Wolff [893] for first edition in dark blue buckram. Buchanan was a novelist (God and the Man, The Martyrdom of Madeline etc), but also a playwright, and above all, a poet. The City of Dream is a book length poem based (in form) on Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, but written from a position of doubt and uncertainty rather than faith, and with elements of satire against certain prevalent religious doctrines and beliefs.
