Stereotyped Edition. Undated, c1890. Early C20th black cloth with reinforced metal corner pieces; gflower-patterned endpapers. The binding looks like a library one, but apart from the number 98 at the foot of the spine there are no indications of library ownership: no tsamps, no labels, no pockets etc. A few light marks on boards, some light foxing, very good. Braddon's lurid penny-dreadful serials for the Halfpenny Journal (in which it appeared as The Banker's Secret), repackaged for middle-class consumption. The villainous banker of the title is happy to commit any crime to gain £20,000. View more info
