Contains: The Mystery of Iris Grey. An Emotional Drama of To-Day by Annie O. TIBBITS. Complete serialisation. Behind the Veil by DIPLOMATIST. Stories of diplomatic intrigue and espionage featuring Baron Stielko. Short stories include: The Sign of the Skull, Le Diable & The Abducted Ambassador by Huan MEE, The Shadow Woman by Winifred GRAHAM, The Resurrection of Matthew Jephson by R. Austin FREEMAN. Early C20th dark green binder's cloth. Bound without any title page, index etc. Lacks front free endpaper, text paper lightly tanned throughout, some tears to page edges (without loss), good only. The magazine advertised itself as "the high water mark in cheap popular periodical literature": a weekly magazine of 40 pages or more, for one penny. The low price was achieved in part, it seems, by recycling thrillers and crime novels published in volume form in earlier years. For example, Freeman's story had previously appeared in Cassell's Magazine in 1899. Heavy: may require additional postage outside UK.
