Original blindstamped royal blue cloth, lettered in gilt on spine; brown endpapers. Loss of cloth (1 cm) to head and foot of spine, a trifle shaken, otherwise a good reading copy. Six long stories, mostly with Scottish settings: Meg of Elibank, The Laird's Seam, A Wooing and Wedding of 17--, Lady Strathmore's Daughter, Squire Bolton's Transgression, Hector Garrett of Otter. Tytler/Keddie had a long career: her first novel, The Kinnears, appeared in 1852; her last seems to have been A Banished Lady (1909). Meg of Elibank appeared anonymously as "by the author of The Nut-Brown Maids."
