Rebound in late C19th black leather over blue marbled boards; pale blue marbled endpapers. Hinges rubbed, good. Signed by Boyesen ("H. H. Boyesen") on blank prelim. Boyesen was born in Norway and emigrated to the U. S. A. at the age of 21. He became the first Norwegian author to write a novel (Gunnar, 1874) in his adopted country. He was a noted linguist and academic, and therefore the ideal candidate to provide an introduction to the work of Alexander Kielland, a compatriot who remained firmly in Norway, spending much of his life in and around Stavanger.
