Original red cloth, lettered and illustrated in black and gilt, yellow endpapers. Rubbed and nicked at head of spine, one corner creased, otherwise good. Inscription on front free endpaper reads: To Algernon R. Boyesen from his affectionate father Hjalmar H. Boyesen...May 1892. Boyesen was born in Norway and emigrated to the U. S. A. at the age of 21. He became the first Norwegian author to write a novel (Gunnar, 1874) in his adopted country, and followed it with A Norseman's Pilgrimage in 1875.
