Illustrated. Original royal blue cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt on spine; brown endpapers. Armorial bookplate of novelist Edmund Yates on front pastedown. Spine dulled, and frayed on tips, board edges a little darkened, note on half-title, good. Yates's bookplate has his motto -- Fortiter, Fideliter, Feliciter -- and (printed) signature. The note on the half title reads: Bought at Edmund Yates's library sale, J. F. Boyes, 21, 22/1/95. Kingsley's travelogue first appeared in two volumes in the same year.
