Two volumes in late C19th maroon leather over red marbled boards. Small chips on spine tips, small piece of insect damage to leather on volume I, larger area of wear and small chips on lower hinge on volume II, signature (1892) on prelims/endpapers, fair/good. Wolff [5384]. The novel tells the story of Hermann Wolff, a Saxon carried off into captivity by the Turks, who becomes the favourite officer of Ali Bey, ruler of Egypt and later Syria, at the end of the C18th. "Tense with the passionate love of the desert and the free-life of the Bedouin." (Baker: Historical Fiction). A heavy two-volume set which qill require additional postage.
