1 Gallon, Tom As He Was Born A Comedy (1911)
London George Bell 1911 Colonial Edition Hard Cover 
Original blindstamped light blue cloth, lettered in gilt on spine. Bookplate of rules for South African Public Library on front pastedown, and their small bookplate on rear board; small accession date stamp and note on verso of title page, small stamp occasionally in margins, but no shelf numbering etc on spine. Foxing spots throughout, good.

2 Gallon, Tom Aunt Phipps A Novel (1905)
London Hutchinson & Co 1905 Colonial Edition Hard Cover 
Original crimson cloth, lettered in gilt. Extremities scuffed, a few light marks, trace of removed label on rear board, South African Public Library bookplate on front pastedown, and accession stamp and note on verso of title page, two small stamps at head of first page of text, endpapers browned, one loose page tipped in, thus only fair. Gallon had a fascination with impersonation and imposture and also wrote a number of novels of London low-life which have a strong debt to his literary hero, Charles Dickens. Aunt Phipps seems to combine these elements.

Single Issue in original wrappers. Contains: The Mystery of Prince Otto by Jaques FUTRELL, A Call from the Dark by Tom GALLON, The Sins of Severac Babylon: The Head of Caesar by Sax ROHMER, The Substitute by David WHITELAW and some 20 other short stories. Original pictorial wrappers. Chipped on spine tips, some chipping and nicking to leading edge of front cover and advertisement leaves, paper lightly browned throughout, fair. The journal advertised itself as "The Largest Magazine in the World". Individual issues are uncommon

4 Gallon, Tom In a Little House (1903)

Original crimson cloth, lettered in gilt, Stamps on endpapers ("Reserve Stock") and verso of title page; no other indication of library ownership. Endpapers lightly browned, undated signature on title page, a few foxing spots, good. Gallon had a fascination with impersonation and imposture and also wrote a number of novels of London low-life which have a strong debt to his literary hero, Charles Dickens. In a Little House seems to combine these elements.

A Christmas ghost story in the manner of Charles Dickens.
