1 Donovan, Dick [ie James Edward Preston MUDDOCK] "Jim the Penman" The Life Story of One of the Most Astounding Criminals That Have Ever Lived (1901)
London George Newnes 1901 First Edition Hard Cover
Ex-library. Early C20th rebinding in black leather over green cloth: all edges gilt. Endpapers replaced, occasional stamps for Belfast Reference Library (but no library marks on binding): otherwise good. The real "Jim the Penman", James Saward, was a barrister with a sideline in forgery. After his conviction and transportation to Australia his crimes were romanticised in a successful play, before Donovan turned his life story into a crime novel in 1901.
