Late C19th rebinding in beaded green cloth, lettered in gilt on spine. Bookplate of C. E. H. Hobhouse on front pastedown, two signatures on front free endpaper, very good. The novel is set in C10th Spain and concerns the daughter of the Count of Barcelona, stolen from her family in infancy; her imprisonment and other adventures including a period at the court of the Caliph. Menella Smedley was the cousin to the better-known novelist Frank Smedley.
