Contains: What He Cost Her by James Payn. Continuation of ongoing serialisation. Doubleday's Children by Dutton Cook. Start of serialisation. The Extra Xmas Number for 1876: When the Ship Comes Home [by Walter Besant & James Rice]. Original blindstamped green cloth, lettered in gilt; later yellow endpapers. Lightly scuffed, a little light foxing, very good.

Library Edition, Piccadilly Novels. Late Piccadilly Novels style binding: ornately blindstamped navy blue cloth, lettered in gilt. Light scuffing, a few foxing spots, bookplate on front pastedown, very good. Besant & Rice's second joint novel. Partially set in Mauritius ("Palmiste Island") where Besant had worked as a teacher for several years.

Late-style Piccadilly novels binding: dark blue cloth elaborately blindtsamped, with lettering in gilt. Corners scuffed, front free endpaper excised, good. One of the least common of Besant & Rice's titles. The book is divided into three sections: I From the Supernatural (The Case of Mr Lucraft, The Mystery of Joe Morgan, An Old Old Story, Lady Kitty, The Old Four-Poster, My Own Experience); II From Fairyland (Titania's Farewell); & III From Fact (On the Goodwin, Edelweis, Love Finds the Way, The Death of Samuel Pickwick, When the Ship Comes Home).
