London Hurst & Blackett 1906 1st Edition Hardcover Good Book 
Original steel-blue cloth, lettered and framed in black on front board, in gilt on spine; publisher's own monogrammed endpapers. Corners a little scuffed, a little foxing, otherwise good. Whitby began with two (moderately) feminist novels: The Awakening of Mary Fenwick (1889) and Part of the Property (1890), both dealing with women's perception that they are being treated as property and possessions by men. Her later fiction is more conservative in tone. The Whirligig of Time is the story of a "New Woman" who becomes the second wife and stepmother in a Devonshire farming family.
