Macmillan's Colonial Library No. 233. Original undecorated green cloth. Light foxing on endpapers, otherwise very good. Historical crime novel, with an immensely long, mock eighteenth century title (I have only given about half of it above).

Original red cloth, lettered in gilt. Cloth generally (but lightly) mottled and speckled, gilt lettering partially dulled/oxidised, trace of removed label on lower part of spine, a little pink staining on edge of first few leaves, light foxing, bookplate on front pastedown, good. Not in Wolff (who had 15 of Barrett's novels).

Undated copy, without title page (hence no date, no publisher). Probably around 1900. Textually complete, with a couple of loose pages tipped in. Dark brown leather over light brown cloth. Cloth worn on edges, some smudgy marks in text. A reading copy of this sensational novel of crime and Russian revolutionaries, which starts with the dramatic line "Wolves or Cossacks?"
