Issued 1919 - 22. 14 volumes uniformly bound in fine-ribbed navy-blue cloth, with blindstamped framing and laurel wreaths on front boards, Merrick's initials on front boards in gilt, titles in gilt on spines. Each volume has a title page with decorative scroll-work in blue; While Paris Laughed also has illustrated endpapers. Light scuffing, some volumes have speckling on boards, most volumes have undated signatures on front endpapers. The Wordlings has small loss to upper free corner of front board. A good set. Hodder started to issue this set in 1919, and commissioned well-known writers (and others) to provide introductions. However, as Merrick continued to publish new books at the same time, two of the later volumes (While Paris Laughed and To Tell You the Truth) were issued, of necessity, without introductions. The twelve introductions are by: J. K. Prothero, Maurice Hewlett, Granville Barker, W. D. Howells, Neil Munro, W. Robertson Nicoll, J. M. Barrie, H. G. Wells, G. K. Chesterton, W. J.
